Water Meters
All properties on municipal water must have a Town-approved water meter installed. You must provide convenient and safe space for the Town's water meter; only Town employees/agents are permitted to remove or inspect the water meter. You are required to provide enough heat to the area where the water service enters the building to prevent freezing damage to the water meter. Any damage to the water meter caused by freezing will be at your expense.
You can read your own water meter to monitor your water usage between utility billings. If you notice higher than usual usage, check out our tips to conserve water. If you think you might have a "leak" or think a fixture or appliance in your home is using more water than it should, you can check out our tips for finding a leak.
Water Service Connections
Remember that your water line and sanitary sewer line from your property line to your home, and all plumbing inside your home, is your responsibility to maintain and repair. Water operations staff must be onsite when installing new connections to municipal water at the property line. You must contact the Utilities Clerk at 519-534-1400 ext. 103 to arrange the date/time for the connection. You must provide a minimum of two (2) working days' notice. Please make sure you are aware of other instructions for connecting to municipal water.
No one, including plumbers, shall open or close a curb stop (water valve at property line) other than Town-authorized personnel. Any person requesting a curb stop be turned "on" or "off" must give at least two (2) working days' notice to the Town and will be charged the applicable fee. Anyone requesting their water to be turned on or off at the curb must contact the Utility Clerk at 519-534-1400 ext. 103 to set up an appointment.
