An entranceway permit is required when constructing a new or altering an existing entrance that accesses a municipal road. If your property fronts on a Bruce County roadway or a Provincial highway, you must contact Bruce County or the Ministry of Transportation to obtain approval for your entrance.

Application for Entrance Permit
When do I need an entrance permit?
Any of the following conditions requires an approved entrance permit:
- Erecting a building on vacant land
- Obtaining access to vacant land where no access exists
- Constructing a new entranceway
- Constructing a paved entranceway
- Paving an existing entranceway
- Changing the location of an existing entranceway
- Constructing a temporary entranceway
- Changing the zoning/land use of a property that would affect the property's access
Installation costs
All costs for the construction of the entranceway, including the installation of culverts, curbs, or catch basins, are the responsibility of the entranceway applicant. All future costs for entranceway maintenance are the responsibility of the owner/occupant of the property, regardless of the date the original entranceway was installed, and will extend to the travelled portion of the road.
Submitting Your Application
Applications for all Public Works permits on this page can be e-mailed to the Public Works Department. Payment must be made by cheque, cash, or debit as the Town does not accept credit card or e-transfer payments. Where deposits are required as part of the permit, the deposit must be certified cheque, bank draft, or cash. Payment must be received by the Town prior to a permit being issued.
Civic/911 Address
Civic (911) addresses are generally assigned in conjunction with the entrance permit application process. It is mandatory that every improved property within the Town of South Bruce Peninsula display a 911 address. Properties in the former Village of Hepworth and Town of Wiarton are not issued green 911 address blades. Owners in these locations must display the 911 address in a visible location at the owner’s expense. Properties arranging for a civic address or 911 sign outside of the entrance permit process must submit an Application for Civic Address/911 Sign.
Road/Sidewalk Cut Permit
Property owners or their contractors are required to submit an Application for Cut Permit when their work includes cutting a road, curb, or sidewalk for the installation of a water line, sewer line, utility, drainage requirements, etc.
Road/Sidewalk Occupation Permit
Property owners or their contractors are required to submit an Application for Road Occupation Permit when their work includes disrupting vehicular or pedestrian traffic within the roadway, boulevard or sidewalk or if they are working or placing construction vehicles or material within the roadway, boulevard or sidewalk. Logging Operation Permit
Logging on private properties within the Town of South Bruce Peninsula is governed and regulated by the County of Bruce. Use of the Town road system by the logging contractor becomes necessary to provide access and egress from the properties being logged. A Logging Operation Agreement and deposit is required where the logging operation will be making use of a portion of road or road allowance, whether maintained or unmaintained.
Move Permit
An Application for Move Permit is required for all requests for moving of heavy vehicles, loads, objects or structures in excess of the dimensional limits and weight limits as set out in the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter H.8, Section 110.
