The Town of South Bruce Peninsula's Property Standards By-Law provides standards for the conditions of property and buildings.
Report a concern
If you want to make a complaint about the condition of a property or building, please contact staff. You will be required to make a formal complaint which must be signed by you (typewritten or computer signatures not accepted).
Your complaint must include the property address and must give a detailed description of what you believe to be the violation of the Property Standards By-Law.
You must submit a separate complaint for each address that you are complaining about.
No investigation will begin until we receive the detailed and signed complaint. You as the complainant will not be updated on staff's handling of the file. It can take a number of months and sometimes in extreme cases years to achieve compliance. Please understand that just because you do not see progress at a particular property, it does not mean that the Town is not actively working on a file.
What we will not investigate under Property Standards
- Drainage and flooding where there is an open Building Permit
- Trees, shrubs, foliage hanging over property lines or which could fall or which could or have caused damage
- Landlord/tenant disputes
- A matter already before the courts
- A matter which is being or has been investigated by another enforcement agency (ie. police, health unit)
- A matter which appears to be a neighbour dispute
- A matter which the Town would consider to be harassing
- A matter which would be unsafe for an enforcement officer to attend to
- A wellness check reported by someone who does not live on or own the property (ie. a family member is concerned about the conditions inside a family's residence)
- Building Code or Fire Code violations (please contact the appropriate department to make those types of complaints)
Note: There is no guarantee that the Town will investigate any complaint that is received. Investigations are conducted at the discretion of the Town.
