Justice Vella of the Ontario Supreme Court recently released her supplementary reasons for judgment. This was to address the possibility of issuing a “life interest” in favour of current private landowners (Alberta Lemon, The Estate of Barbara Twining, and David Dobson) involved in the Land Claim. Justice Vella ruled that there would be no “life Interest” as it pertains to the private landowners involved in the Land Claim. The decision is available for viewing on the Towns dedicated Land Claim page.
The Town’s appeal of the Land Clam decision is progressing and based on information available, we believe that the appeal will be heard in the late spring of 2024.
While the Land Claim appeal is underway, the Town continues to provide services in the same manner as in previous years, such as parking, garbage collection and portable washrooms along Lakeshore Blvd North.
Saugeen First Nation is responsible for beach maintenance from Main St to 7th Street North as well as washroom facilities located on the beach at 6th Street North and 152 Lakeshore Blvd. North (Just north of Chesley Lane).
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula and Saugeen First Nation staff continue to have dialogue regarding beach related operational issues in an effort to make sure that the beach remains a viable and desirable tourist attraction for everyone to enjoy.
