Some areas of South Bruce Peninsula have experienced more freezing rain than others. Ice build up in trees has brought down branches and debris and in places has caused hydro and phone lines to fall onto roads. Even though the freezing rain warning has ended for our area, debris is continuing to fall onto the roads, causing a hazard.
Public Works’ staff are assessing the damages, and Hydro One crews are busy everywhere responding to the emergency. The Purple Valley area north of Wiarton is one of the harder hit areas. The Town has closed the following road due to debris and/or power lines down:
- Wright’s Crescent from Purple Valley Rd to Coveney’s Rd
This closure can be found at https://www.municipal511.ca/. Our staff provide live updates for municipally owned roads through the Municipal 511 website which includes a great visual map of the road closures.
Hydro One Outage Updates can be found here: https://www.hydroone.com/power-outages-and-safety/stormcentre-outage-map
The risk from falling debris remains high and we are advising that residents do not travel until conditions improve.
